York University Endowment Lands

Toronto

York University began life as a suburban campus in the 1960’s surrounded by farmers’ fields on the edge of a growing Metropolitan area. Urbanization has now caught up with the University, significant growth is occurring around it and a new subway line is under construction that will serve the campus and its surroundings. The City of Toronto has already approved Secondary Plans anticipating significant new mixed-use urban neighbourhoods on what are currently surface parking lots surrounding the campus. The York University Development  Corporation (YUDC)  is responsible for shaping, guiding and managing the development of these lands that form the perimeter of the York University Academic Core and constitute an important endowment legacy for the University. YUDC has hired Greenberg Consultants and the Planning Partnership who worked together on the University’s own Master Plan to lead a multi-disciplinary team to carry out detailed Precinct Planning for a portion of these perimeter lands.
