Woodward Corridor
Detroit
Woodward Avenue is an iconic 27-mile urban scenic byway and the spine of the Detroit metropolitan region that traverses eleven communities from Downtown Detroit to the City of Pontiac. The communities involved are (from south to north): Detroit, Highland Park, Ferndale, Pleasant Ridge, Royal Oak, Huntington Woods, Berkely, Birmingham, (City of) Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township and Pontiac. The Woodward Avenue Action Association is developing a Complete Streets Master Plan. The project involves a process to develop a plan for—and then implement—“complete streets” projects that will connect communities, spur economic development and help improve health, well-being and social equity along 27 miles of Woodward Avenue. The plan will include recommendations for providing facilities for all types of users, sample cross-sections, locations of proposed bicycle and improved pedestrian facilities, as well as proposed locations for transit improvements. The Master Plan is funded by a Federal Scenic Byway Grant and Parsons Brinckerhoff Michigan, Inc is working with WA3 and a team including Greenberg Consultants to develop the plan.
