The right to develop the decommissioned U.S. Postal Service site in downtown Boston was won by Jones Lang Lasalle and Walton Street Capital. A design team led by Ken Greenberg with CBT Architects was selected to develop the vision for the site's redevelopment. This Dorchester Avenue site is a lynchpin between several existing and emerging neighborhoods in the City of Boston. Its immediate adjacency to South Station, a major transit hub in New England, frontage on Fort Point Channel and the intersection of interstate highways 90 and 93 make this a highly attractive and accessible site in the region and the city. Redevelopment of the site is challenged by geographic and physical disconnects as well as the potential expansion of South Station. One of the major challenges will be to make a virtue of a necessity - overcoming limited vehicular access and promoting superb access to the Transportation Center, making it a key destination for walking, cycling, and other forms of transit. The fact that the site is a part of South Station gives it highest level of transit connectivity in the region, in close proximity to water transportation facilities.
