Quartier Dix30, Brossard
Montreal
Quartier DIX30 is a first commercial lifestyle centre opened in Brossard, Quebec in 2006. With 2.7 million sq. ft. of retail, it was designed to emulate an urban or downtown shopping experience to meet the needs of suburban dwellers living on the South Shore of Montreal and relied almost entirely on automobile access. Its name refers to its location: at the west corner of the intersection between Autoroute 10 and Autoroute 30. A mere 13 years later light rail, the REM line is coming to the site with 15 minute access to downtown Montreal and a new chapter is beginning. Ken Greenberg has joined a team led by Lemay CO. Inc. as senior urban design advisor working with the new owners Oxford Properties on a major transformation of the site.. The goal is to create a new dense transit oriented mixed-use community with a broad selection of uses, including retail, food, office, and residential buildings, together with ‘public’ amenities to support the creation of a shared generous park ‘commons’ with a strong identity, sense of place and compact urban form. A Complete Community by Design Quartier Dix30 will be the new Downtown for the South Shore. Building on its roots as a vibrant regional shopping and dining destination, the Quariter Dix30 has aspirations to become a complete community with inspiring green space and places to live, work, shop and play.
