Port Lands Bridges

Toronto

Ken Greenberg was invited to be an urban design advisor on a team led by Entuitive Engineers and Grimshaw Architects selected by Waterfront Toronto to prepare designs for three critical new bridges in the Toronto Port Lands. These bridges form part of a major $1.2 billion effort currently underway funded by the federal, provincial and city governments to provide flood proofing along the Lower Don River where it enters Toronto Harbour. The plan calls for a relocation of the river itself from its current containment in the narrow Keating Channel  to a broad swath of 100 acres of new parkland with soft edges forming  a new mixed-use precinct on what is now called Villiers Island. The three iconic bridges will provide connections to the island for all modes of movement including vehicular, LRT and active transportation.
