Brick Bottom and Inner Belt
Somerville, Massachusetts
The City of Somerville has launched a major planning process the Inner Belt and Brick Bottom Area. An interdisciplinary team led by Ken Greenberg with CBT Architects was selected to develop new vision for area bounded by I-93, McGrath Highway and Washington Streets. The study was designed to help the City promote economic development in both neighborhoods by capturing the benefits of a Green Line extension in the context of other transportation, infrastructure and environmental needs. The study, under the direction of the City's Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development, will be used to create a framework for high quality mixed-use development in the districts, including significant investment from the life science and sustainable energy sectors and will receive input from local community members and state officials. The goal is to build on the strengths of this currently isolated area and develop a plan that can successfully unlock its potential for strategic re-development.
